Hair Removal
Sugar & Wax
Sugar vs. Wax:
Which option is right for you?

Waxing and Sugaring are about the same in terms of effectiveness and pain level. Both techniques depilate hair from the skin by grasping the hairs and then flicking them away, removing the hair by the root. This allows clients to be hair free for 3-6 weeks depending on the individual's natural growth cycle speed.

Waxing

Strip Wax (aka Soft Wax):
Warm wax is thinly applied on the skin in the direction of hair growth. A woven strip is then applied over the warm wax and swiftly removed against hair growth. This type of wax is used for large areas like arms, legs and back.

Hard Wax:
Applied more thickly than strip wax, with no woven strip needed to remove wax from skin. Being made mostly of beeswax, hard wax sits on top of the skin and adheres to the hair only, making for a less painful experience. Hard wax is always used for the face, underarms and bikini areas.

Sugaring

Sugaring is what it sounds like - sugar. A mixture consisting of sugar, lemon and water are cooked together at a specific temperature to form a sticky paste. Sugar paste is applied luke warm and removed in the natural direction of hair growth.
The consistency of the paste allows for skin exfoliation in a gentle manner. Sugar paste is all natural and does not breed bacteria. It is also water soluble, allowing for easy clean up.
This technique is great for clients who may have conditions or allergies that do not allow them to participate in waxing services (a doctor should always be consulted before having any hair removal technique performed when any skin, blood or immune disorder is present).

The DO's and DONT's of Hair Removal

Before Your Appointment:

*Let your hair grow. For waxing services don't even think about booking an appointment unless you've gone 3 - 4 weeks without shaving or waxing and have at least 1/4 inch of hair. Sugaring does not require the hair to be quite as long but please still allow 3 - 4 weeks of growth to allow for the best possible results. Patience is a virtue – hair removal will be more painful and not as effective if you haven't waited long enough!

*Please avoid sun exposure for 24 hours before and after your appointment. Remember your sunscreen if you plan on hitting the beach or sunbathing the day after your appointment to avoid irritation or hyperpigmentation

*Avoid pools, saunas, hot tubs and exercise right before your appointment, as well as caffeine and alcohol. These all make the skin more sensitive and the service more painful.

*Lightly exfoliate your skin the night before your appointment. Using a wash cloth or loofah should be sufficient. Do not use any scrubs or acids the day before or after your wax.
To help ease discomfort during your appointment, we recommend 2-3 ibuprofen 30-45 minutes before your appointment. Ibuprofen is both a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory and may help calm skin more quickly after your appointment.

After Your Appointment:

*Avoid exercise (and we mean ALL types of exercise, wink wink) for at least 2 hours after your appointment. Your pores will remain open and susceptible to bacteria that may cause a break out or irritation.

*Avoid showering for up to 2 hours after your appointment. Heat and soap can also cause irritation and break out. If you MUST shower right after your appointment use cool water and rinse (only, no soaps) in the areas you have been waxed.
Its important to use proper after care between waxes to avoid break outs and ingrown hairs. These can be recommended to you at the time of your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does it hurt?
Lets face it, there is nothing painless about pulling hair out. We provide a 4% lidocaine spray to help numb the area and suggest taking 2 ibuprofen 30-45 minutes before your service.  In most cases, once the service is finished there is no residual pain.

Aunt Flo has come to visit, do I need to cancel my appointment?
Absolutely not, but be aware that having services done on your menstrual cycle tends to cause extra sensitivity. If you prefer to avoid extra discomfort we can do our best to schedule future appointments accordingly.

I was just in for a service, why is there hair already growing back?
If it is your first time waxing, odds are that you will find hair growing back with in a few days. There are three phases of hair growth and in order  for the wax to remove the hair it needs to be in a specific phase. It can take anywhere from 3-5 consistent visits to get the hair growing in the same phase. Please keep in mind that no hair removal system is perfect and may not pick up 100% of the hair. We do our best to get everything but please do not be surprised to find a stray or two.

I am pregnant, can I have services done "down there"?
Yes! We have plenty of experience with women who are pregnant. You may be more sensitive during this time, as your hormones levels will be out of sorts.  We will take special care with you during your appointment to make sure you are as comfortable as possible.

I am using Retin-A, Accutane or other medications, can I still have hair removal services?
If you are using Accutane or have been on Accutane within the last 6 months, you can not be waxed or sugared and should consult your doctor once you feel ready to come in again. If you are using Retin-A, you must wait up to 6 weeks to wax or sugar after you have discontinued use of the product. If waiting is not an option, then tweezing or threading would be better options for you. If you are using any other acne or skin thinning/lightening medication, please consult your doctor before booking an appointment,
